De geschiedenis van Groot Constantia gaat terug tot 1685. De wijnen van Constantia werden wereldwijd bekend. Er werden kleine hoeveelheden geproduceerd en de wijn was zo duur dat alleen Aristocraten de wijn konden kopen. Het wijnhuis heeft circa 167 hectare grond waarvan 86 hectare beplant is met wijnstokken. Op deze wijngaarden zijn de druivensoorten S\u00e9millon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Muscat de Frontignon, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Shiraz, Touriga Nacional en Malbec aangeplant. Het wijnhuis is in handen geweest van diverse personen waaronder Simon van der Stel en is sinds 1993 eigendom van de Groot Constantia Trust.<\/p>\n

De wijn heeft een dieprode kleur, in de neus een overvloed aan rijp donker fruit zoals zwarte bessen en rijpe kersen.\u00a0Hij rijpt 14 maanden in Franse eiken vaten. Na een tijdje in het glas geeft hij ook ondertonen van vers rood fruit vrij. In de mond verder veel zwart fruit ondersteund door fijne tannines die een goed bewaarpotentieel beloven.
